From the Summary: "In 2003 and 2004, we continued our assessment of juvenile Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) habitat use in the nearshore areas of Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. Additional work was conducted in Lake Quinault to study habitat features that are rare in the Lake Washington basin and serve as a more natural "reference system" to Lake Washington. ... Because large woody debris (LWD) and emergent vegetation are rare in Lake Washington, we examined their use by juvenile Chinook salmon in Lake Quinault. Nearshore snorkel transects were surveyed in 2004 during a 2-week period in April and a 2-week period in June. The nearshore was divided into one of five habitat types .... During the April daytime surveys, tributary mouths generally had higher numbers of Chinook salmon than other habitat types and bedrock sites often had a lower number. ... There was no difference in their nighttime abundance between habitat types. At night, they were abundant in the nearshore area but there was no difference in their abundance between habitat types."
