Adaptive plasticity in amphibian metamorphosis
Newman RA. 1992. Adaptive plasticity in amphibian metamorphosis. BioScience. 42(9):671-678
The author reviews the evidence for adaptive phenotypic plasticity in larval amphibians to illustrate some of the difficulties in identifying adaptive plasticity and interpreting effects of the environment on the phenotype, and suggests a general outline of the limits to the evolution of adaptive plasticity, focusing particularly on costs of plasticity.
