The author, Joseph Dixon, and Donald Curry of the NPS placed 12 rat-traps at a small salt marsh south of Furnace Creek Ranch, Death Valley National Park, California, on December 5, 1935. The traps were placed in the Desert woodrat (Neotoma lepida) runways that led through shallow water. Six N. lepida were caught and five specimens were preserved.
