Avian Demography Monitoring and Visitor Education at Devils Postpile National Monument 2002–2006
Heath SK. 2007. Avian Demography Monitoring and Visitor Education at Devils Postpile National Monument 2002–2006. Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Petaluma, California
In 2006, PRBO Conservation Science (PRBO) completed the fifth year of a bird monitoring and visitor education program in montane meadow and riparian habitats of Devils Postpile National Monument (referred to hereafter as DEPO or the Monument). With the goal of enhancing and protecting riparian and meadow breeding bird populations and their habitat, we have provided 13 habitat, management, and monitoring recommendations to National Park Service staff. These were presented in a previous report (Heath 2005) and are also presented in Appendix 1 of this report. We also provide an evaluation of PRBO’s bird monitoring program and suggestions for future work.
