Bird Monitoring and Visitor Education at Devils Postpile National Monument: 2005 Progress Report

Heath, SK. 2005. Bird Monitoring and Visitor Education at Devils Postpile National Monument: 2005 Progress Report. Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Stinson Beach, CA

In 2005, PRBO Conservation Science (PRBO) completed the fourth year of a bird monitoring and visitor education program in montane meadow and riparian habitats of Devils Postpile National Monument (referred to hereafter as DEPO or the monument). As in past years (2002 – 2004), we conducted point counts at 15 stations along the San Joaquin River and Red’s Meadow Creek within monument boundaries. We also conducted mist netting and banding at Soda Springs meadow near the DEPO Ranger Station. In conjunction with the banding program, we provided interpretive and educational presentations to DEPO visitors.
