From the report Introduction: “The potential exists for dramatic changes in the kind and level of human activity in and around Bolinas Lagoon, Marin County, California. We thus initiated a study to assess the status of the harbor seal in the lagoon and the possible impact these changes would have on the species. Specific objectives were to 1) estimate daily and seasonal variation in the size of seal population, 2) identify the natural factors affecting seal distribution and use of the lagoon, 3) measure pup production, 4) identify present human activities that disturb the seals, and 5) determine how disturbance affects distributional, daily and seasonal use patterns
