The objective of the dendroecological aspect of the present study was designed to allow investigators to reconstruct the Park’s climate history (dendroclimatology), fire history (dendropyrochronology) and to measure periods of environmental change (dendrochronology) in Park vegetation through the examination of tree rings found in living trees and dead snags of ancient red cedars. This information, along with the community and age-class structure of these stands, would be helpful in providing Park management with the information needed to further protect these stands and to hopefully formulate fire prescriptions for Park vegetation that coincide with natural or historic fire regimes.
