This study is the first quantitative investigation of post-adelgid conditions, esp. in the bryophyte community in multiple substrates. Due to the death of Fraser fir (Abies fraseri) caused by the exotic Balsam woolly adelgid (Adelges piceae), canopy openings have likely affected ground-layer dynamics and diversity. Randomly selected plots in the spruce-fir zone were sampled systematically within the bryophyte community. This study is the first quantitative investigation of post-adelgid conditions, esp. in the bryophyte community in multiple substrates.
