This ongoing research tries to monitor shoreline change at American Memorial Park in Saipan. Researchers used GPS and historical maps to track historical shoreline and current shoreline locations. Park bathrooms and pathways are at risk during storm surges which come over the protective fringing reef. Another risk is sea level rise in future years, which will decrease the effectivenes of the reef and threaten park structures even more. Beach sand appears to be eroding from the western shoreline and dropping around the northern point of the park. Future research will be added to a later report.
