PURPOSE AND NEED The National Park Service proposes to implement a fire and fuels management program for the Devils Postpile National Monument (hereinafter called the monument). Wildland fires have been suppressed on monument lands by federal agencies even pre- dating its establishment in 1911. This plan will establish the relationships among fire management objectives, firefighter and public safety, and natural and cultural resource management objectives.
