The notebook includes correspondence (1983-1993), the proposal, and 5 annual reports on this study of aquatic insects in tinajas and ponds of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and other southern Arizona areas. One objective is to measure dispersal of aquatic insects among ponds located fairly close together. Genetic structure of the various populations can now be investigated closely using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), providing data on variation that was unavailable before the recent advances in molecular biology. Also in the notebook is a copy of "Aquatic Coleoptera and Hemiptera of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona," submitted to "Entomology News" in late 1995. The current aquatic beetle and bug fauna of the monument comprises 61 species, and a list is included.
