The range of magmatic compositions at the Lassen volcanic center can be characterized in terms of three end-member components: high-IE/Sr (weight ratio of incompatibible elements/Sr), low-IE/Sr basaltic andesite, and rhyolite of striking major- and trace-element uniformity. For these and intermediate rock types, Sr-, Nd-, and Pb-isotope ratios are well correlated. The linearity of the isotope-data array probably results both from mixing of magma sources and/or products, and variable contamination of parental magmas while ascending through the crust. Isotopic diversity primarily may reflect heterogeneity in the source region of these mantle-derived magmas.
