This trip report documents a survey of the intertidal fauna, especially mollusks, on the marine shores of Katmai National Park. Visual on-the-ground foot surveys of beaches were conducted in April 1989 to evaluate the effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Any oil believed to be from the spill was mapped and samples collected. Eight distinct area beaches are described and invertebrate species listed. Each beach-specific report consists of a short narrative describing local conditions followed by a list of invertebrates observed. No quantitative data are included; organisms are identified to species level where possible; and separate lists are provided for living and dead. Attached to the survey report is 1) a "Tentative listing of mammals of Katmai National Park" that indicates both summer and winter habitat zones, and 2) a "Preliminary list of the mammals of Alaska."
