The kelp forest monitoring program at Channel Islands National Park provides data on population dynamics for 68 indicator species of algae, fish, and invertebrates. 16 transect sites were surveyed in 1991. Healthy kelp forests were recorded at 9 sites. Sea urchins were dominant in five other transects containing kelp. The population density of white urchins was determined and compared with previous observations. Fish recruitment decreased and abalone recruitment was poor.
