Kingfisher and Sharp-Shinned Hawk

On August 31, 1927, the author observed a sharp-shinned hawk attempt to prey on a belted kingfisher, in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. The kingfisher escaped his predator by diving into the river, and then by swimming on the surface of the water.
