August 1979 plankton tows of 12 Fredeirck Sound stations, 5 Glacier Bay statins, and 1 Icy Strait station. High krill at 3 of 5 FS stations, but very low krill at all GB & Icy STrit sites. They sugest that distrib of humpbacks may generally reflect occurrence and avail of prey (although they also say that there were some krill-rich areas without whales). They suggest that humpback abandonment of GB in 78 and 79 due to food scarcity. Factors governing krill abundance are poorly understood...
