Large Mammal-Predator Study, Canyonlands National Park
Schelz CD. 1988. Large Mammal-Predator Study, Canyonlands National Park. National Park Service, Southeast Utah Group. Moab, UT
The author researched and used several techniques for recording the presence of large mammals, including sifted-soil scent stations, sooted-aluminum-plate scent stations, ground tracking, scat collection, and analysis of visitor observation information. He used the various techniques in the Island in the Sky and Needles Districts of Canyonlands National Park in late summer, 1988. Results are reported in a narrative and tabular form, and recommendations are given as to the most effective and practical techniques to be used in longer term studies. Scent station line information includes locations and descriptions of plant communities.
