This research progress report concerns the role of large organic debris in modifying stream channel form and habitat for anadromous fish. Some of the work is directly concerned with Redwood Creek (Redwood National Park), and results of another part of the study at Yosemite National Park are expected to be applied at Larry Damm Creek in Redwood National Park. Discoveries of Redwood Creek cold pools which provide summer habitat for anadromous fish 'may prove important to many streams and rivers on the north coast of California,' and the paper gives some details about these pools and their advantages for fish. In addition, the author is working on a model to evaluate such individual hydrologic environments as pools, riffles, or accumulations of large organic debris; this model is to be tested at Yosemite and Larry Damm Creek. The third part of the research involves experimental removal of debris at Larry Damm Creek, and subsequent monitoring.
