The Lentic Resources of Lassen Volcanic National Park, California

A fisheries study concerning fish populations, lake conditions, and watershed conditions was conducted in Lassen Volcanic National Park. There were 17 out of 130 fisheries that actually hold fish. Six of the 17 contain remnants of previous stockings. There were eight species of fish removed from the 17 lakes or fisheries: rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri), Eastern brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), brown trout (Salmo trutta), coarseraker tui chub (Siphateles bicolor obesus), modoc sucker (Catostomus microps), tahoe sucker (Catostomus tahoensis), golden shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas), and lahontan redside (Richardsonius egregius). Eighty percent of the lakes could actually sustain stocked fishery. However, Department of Interior policies restrict such actions.
