The author discusses the sensitivity of lichens to air pollution and their value as indicator organisms. The field work was conducted in the spruce-fir zone at 22 plots. Laboratory work consisted of analyzing ash content and manganese as stress indicators, lead, cadmium, copper, and iron as geochemical background elements, and lead, cadmium, and sulphur for anthropomorphic contributions. Data is tabulated and graphed.
