Investigations on the limnology of Walker Lake were conducted during 6-11 July 1988. Water samples were collected at five sites and inflowing streams. Final chemical and chlorophyll analyses were conducted at the University of Missouri. Walker Lake is oligotrophic as judged by phosphorus and algal chlorophyll a, but its nitrogen content was higher than expected. High nitrogen and low phosphorus concentrations resulted in phosphorus being identified as the element restricting phytoplankton growth.
