This article briefly summarizes the history of beaver in North America and describes some of the ecosystem-level responses of streams to beaver-induced alterations. It also discusses beaver-induced changes in the landscape that take place over broad spatial and temporal scales. Some topics included are stream channel alterations, creation of patch bodies, riparian zone alterations and accompanying species changes, vegetative success and drainage networks alterations. Research was conducted in Quebec, Minnesota (including areas of Voyageurs NP), Montana, and Alaska. Aerial photos of drainage network impacts to the Kabetogama Peninsula are included.
