An eighteen-year water quality database, complemented by recent more intensive streamwater and precipitation analyses, provides interesting insights into long-term ecosystem responses to anthropogenic atmospheric inputs. This is especially true for this stream since it is a relatively small (34 km2), isolated and protected drainage, vegetated by mature northern hardwood and boreal forest species. Stream discharge shows no significant trend over the observation period. Calcium and potassium (0.594 and 0.012 meq respective weighted means) showed slight but insignificant declines as did hydrogen ion. HC03 was the only species showing a significant decline. Sulfate (0.16 meq weighted mean) showed a slight decline, but Si02 and N03 showed little or no trend. There was no trend in the cation/anion ratio (0.93) or the HCOJS04 ratio.
