Magma beneath Yellowstone National Park
Eaton GP, Christiansen RL, Iyer HM, Pitt AM, Mabey DR, Blank HR, Zietz I, Gettings ME. 1975. Magma beneath Yellowstone National Park. Science. 188(4190):787-796
Authors present both geological and geophysical evidence for the existence of a large, shallow body of silicic magma, in part still molten, beneath the Quaternary caldera of the Yellowstone rhyolite plateau, as postulated long ago by Daly (3). Sections of this article include: late Cenozoic volcanism-rhyolite plateau and Eastern Snake River Plain; geophysical data; gravity; magnetics; seismicity; teleseismic P-wave residuals; regional geophysical setting-some speculations; and a summary.
