A survey of the mammals on the barrier islands (Horn, Petit Bois, East Ship, and West Ship Islands) in the Mississippi portion of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The following were determined for the mammal populations occurring on the islands: sex and age composition, reproductive status, seasonal abundance, home range, impact of exotic species on native flora and fauna, and dietary habits. The results are discussed and presented in tabular form. A discussion includes potential future research and recommendations for management. Maps show the results from home range and distribution studies. Several photographs are used to illustrate the impact of exotic species on vegetation.
