Whitaker JO, Gibble J, Kjellmark E. 1994. Mammals of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. National Park Service Scientific Monograph Series. NPS/NRINDU/NRSM-94/24. National Park Service. Denver, Colorado
Mammals of the Indiana Dunes were surveyed using study plot sampling and various standard small mammal traps. Mist netting, aerial surveys, and track identification were also used in conjunction with data previously recorded by park personnel. Determinations were made of species, communities, distribution, and habitat preferences and requirements for the mammals of the National Lakeshore. Specific information about habitat types and their formation is given. Additionally, attempts at determining the probable effects on mammals of past and present peturbations such as air pollution, habitat destruction and fragmentation, visitor activities, and park operations. Recommendations for further research, monitoring, and management are also provided.
