A proposed management plan for the Cumberland Island feral horse herd, with the main objective of reducing herd size and impact on island resources while at the same time maintaining horse visibility at a level acceptable to visitors. Includes introduction to the area and study objectives; description of the island (visitor use, climate, soils, vegetation, freshwater sources for wildlife); horse requirements (food, water, movement); alternatives (no action, add another water source, clear encroaching vegetation, establish preferred forage in existing lawn areas, preferred combination of alternatives); and conclusions (management recommendations, further research).
