This report of detailed watershed studies at Redwood Creek (Redwood National Park) documents sources and effects of erosion and stream sedimentation. The studies find specific practices connected with logging and associated road building responsible for erosion beyond what would naturally occur. 'Resultant impacts have been found to be additive, to occur essentially instantaneously over large areas, and to be displaced both temporally and spatially from the site of disturbance' (from the authors' Abstract). Some of these are past practices, and recent field inspections of over 300 proposed timber harvest plans have allowed National Park Service staff to make recommendations for improved practices. If implemented, these can significantly reduce fluvial erosion and sediment input from mass earth movements.
