A report on a marking and release study initiated on white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) within the confines of Mammoth Cave National Park. The objectives of the study were to determine what proportion of the park's deer herd ranged onto adjacent private lands and to determine what part the hunting season plays in assisting in the reduction of the park herd. Of the 100 deer banded, only 12 were recaptured and 2 were killed during the November hunting season. It appears from this study that deer have a very limited home range.
