This is a comparative report of avian populations in areas burned during the La Mesa Fire at Bandelier National Monument, NM. Three areas that had been surveyed for birds prior to the fire were then resurveyed after burning, and then for two successive years. Birds encountered along transects are listed according to species, location, and their nesting status for that area. Population density, species diversity, and species evenness is discussed. Includes a comparison of biomasses for Burnt Mesa, Escobas Mesa, and Apache Springs based on total weight of avifauna present and the rate of food consumption required to support them.
