The Miami Limestone contains an upper oolitic and a lower bryozoan facies. The bryozoan facies is the surface rock of the southern Everglades, ranging in thickness from 10 ft in southeastern Florida, thinning to 1 ft. westward to the Gulf of Mexico including the Florida Bay area of Everglades National Park. It is one of the most extensive bryozoan limestones in this country. The bathymetric and ecologic conditions now extant in this area are probably similar to those which existed during the Pleistocene to form the units of the Miami Limestone.
