In this study, we examine such relationships among the populations of deer mice, Peromyscus maniculatus, on the California Channel islands. The eight California Channel Islands lie off the southern California coast, but the islands have probably had no recent connection to the mainland; therefore, colonization by terrestrial organisms occurred via overwater dispersal.
