Monitoring of aquatic impacts associated with construction of the Redwood Park bypass, US 101 bypass: ten year summary report, 1984-1994

Meyer CB and Haux S. 1995. Monitoring of aquatic impacts associated with construction of the Redwood Park bypass, US 101 bypass: ten year summary report, 1984-1994

This report summarizes 10 years' monitoring of Prairie Creek and Klamath River areas affected by construction of the U.S. Highway 101 bypass. It describes effects on aquatic habitat and aquatic life (juvenile salmonids and aquatic macroinvertebrates). The authors conclude that construction had little effect on certain areas, did degrade some habitat (particularly in connection with siltation from areas without erosion-control protection during a fall storm), and may have affected salmonid reproductive success. Some short-term impacts were mitigated, but long-term effects are expected from fine sediment. Continued periodic monitoring is recommended. Includes 14 figures and 18 tables presenting study results. Appendices (not present): cross-section profiles and channel changes, longitudinal profiles, benthic habitat maps, and more.
