Monitoring Oil Spill Impacts in Texas Estuaries

Benton AR and Snell WW. 1980. Monitoring Oil Spill Impacts in Texas Estuaries. NGL 44-001-001. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administraton//National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Report on a study of the effects of the IXTOC I oil spill on the estuaries accessed at Port Isabel and Aransas Pass, at each end of Padre Island National Seashore, Texas. The IXTOC I spill was predicted to leave beaches and estuaries with large deposits of oil, however the disaster was reduced because of three tropical storms which shifted the path of the spill. This project uses color infrared aerial photographs to document the changes in estuarine wetlands.
