This article describes a procedure for monitoring change within plant communities using data from 189 quadrats located near 11 shorthair sedge (Carex exserta) meadow sites in the Sierra Nevada. Statistical analysis is used to analyze and determine the comparative data on plant community change. This information is valuable to detect change in plant communities before serious damage occurs. A discussion of management actions to avert serious damage are included
