The sub-St. Peter surface is tracked from Wisconsin south to the Mammoth Cave area of Kentucky. Evidence is evaluated to suggest that during the hiatus between Canadian (Lower Ordovician) and Champlainian (Middle Ordovician) times, solution played an important part in shaping the sub-St. Peter surface in northeastern Illinois. The northern Illinois landscape is compared to that around Mammoth Cave National Park.
