From December 1982 to May 1987, the quality and quantity of snowfall and snowpack were measured at four stations in a small gauged watershed adjacent to Lake Superior's south shore (near Calumet, MI). The objectives of this study were to (1) quantify year-to-year variation in ionic inputs from winter storm events, snowpack ionic accumulation, and pattern of snowpack solute release; and (2) to assess their effect on seasonal changes in stream chemistry. This study will further knowledge regarding the mechanisms responsible for year-to-year variation in surface water chemistry during peak spring runoff.
