This document contains architectural designs for buildings and landscapes of Munson Valley with efforts to preserve historic character. This manual documents the efforts of students in the Departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon. The primary goal of the study was to provide the students with an educational experience in cooperation with a federal land-managing agency, while hoping to provide the NPS with creative ideas and questions about the role of historic preservation in a setting like Munson Valley at Crater Lake National Park. This demonstrates the benefits of cooperation between an academic institution and a federal agency for historic preservation projects. The report includes environmental and historical background of Munson Valley, with identification of key issues and guiding principles. The approaches developed by the students are both conceptual plans and details designs for landscape and architectural features. Munson Valley Park Headquarters was designed and built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and it has a collection of structures in the Rustic style.
