A Master of Science thesis from Humboldt State University, California. This author made biochemical genetic determinations to assess natural hybridizing between cutthroat and steelhead trout in Redwood Creek. The thesis describes two different analytical approaches used in the study. Results show hybridizing to varying degrees, and the report gives details on the individual populations studied. Natural hybrids of these two species are widespread among tributaries, but not extensive within individual streams. Lack of hybrids among anadromous coastal cutthroat trout in the embayment indicates that hybridization is more common in resident, non-migrating populations. Appendices: 11 tables with allele frequencies, estimates of gametic disequilibrium among diagnostic loci (at various sample sites).
