This study was on ponderosa pine seedling regeneration following the La Mesa Fire of 1977 at Bandelier National Monument, NM. Aerial photography was examined to determine the percentage of burned area that was devoid of trees. These areas were surveyed for coverage and water competition by two seeded and one natural grass. The microclimatic factors surrounding seedlings were also recorded. Analysis revealed the most suitable conditions for seedling survival. Includes a map of the extent of foliar damage to the overstory trees.
