A natural resource inventory of vegetation types was conducted at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, Hyde Park, NY. Most land is forested (40.3%), followed by areas maintained for visitor use (26.3%) and meadows (21.4%). The forested areas are sugar maple (38.3%), oak (24.4%), conifer plantations (21.4%) and hemlock (14.1%) -dominated types. Changes in species are due to sucession and changes in land-use. Report contains a history of vegetation, results and discussion of the inventory study, description of vegetation types, recommendations, and a species list of plants and trees. Includes maps and graphics.
