Analysis of phytoplankton data in the non-tidal Delaware River
Rockel EG and Rose D. 1983. Analysis of phytoplankton data in the non-tidal Delaware River. Upper Delaware River Summer Limnological Program Report No. 4. Delaware River Basin Commission//USDI National Park Service. West Trenton, NJ
This study revealed very low numbers and diversity of algae in the Delaware River above Portland, PA. While both pollutant tolerant and pollutant intolerant species were present, the low numbers of pollution tolerant species did not indicate pollution. More likely, the low algal growth was related to the paucity of nutrients at most sites, as well as other contributing factors, such as cold water from springs.
