Documents the distribution and ecology of the Australian tree fern, Cyathea cooperi, that has invaded several Hawaiian rainforests. Details a baseline survey of a population of Cyathea cooperi that has invaded Kipahulu Valley, Maui. In the twelve plots examined, Cyathea cover averaged 25%; however, 59% of the population was < 0.25 m in height. Without intervention, this population is likely to mature and overtake the site. Further, the ability to disperse spores across long distances suggests that, without mitigation, the future impact of this species will be substantial.
