The nature of the Landers-Mojave earthquake line

Aftershocks of the 1992 Landers-Joshua Tree earthquake indicate that the fault system in that area may be part of a new set of north-south faults forming in the central Mojave area. The direction was unexpected, but similar to the direction of several other earthquakes in the region over the past 50 years. A block rotation and faulting model suggests geological occurrences that may be involved.
