A bald eagle nesting survey was conducted in the interior regions of Katmai National Monument in late May 1979, and productivity counts were made in late July and early August. The objectives of the aerial surveys were to determine eagle nesting density, productivity, and distribution. In addition, other raptor nests were plotted when observed. A total of 28 active bald eagle nests were tabulated. Nesting success averaged 1.36 eaglets per nest; of the 22 nests checked, 6 produced no young, 5 produced one young each, 8 produced 2 young each, and 3 nests produced three fledglings each. Two active osprey nests were sighted on the west side of the Savonoski River.
