The nesting ecology of Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperi) and northern Goshawks (Accipiter gentilis) were studied in the Jemez Mountains, NM. This report is a summation of baseline data of the ecological requirements of these species. Home range sizes, habitat characteristics of nest sites, prey selection, nesting activity, population distribution, and reproductive success. Radiotelemetry was used for data collection. Included are morphological comparisons between goshawks in the Jemez Mountains and specimens from southern New Mexico and Arizona; and between Cooper's hawks in the Jemez Mountains and specimens from other southwestern areas. There are maps of home ranges and tree species composition at nesting sites, and one page of recommendations for management.
