The volume contains 1) an introduction, 2) a paper, Peregrine falcons in the Big Bend National Park: 1977 breeding season, by Hill and Schaetzel; 2) a paper, Texas peregrine eyrie search, 1977, by Kowaleski and Wade, and 3) a Postscript: DDT and the diet of Texas peregrine falcons. There is a literature cited, 4 appendices, and 2 tables. This is the second in series of yearly reports to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department from the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute on the status of peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus anatum). Eggshell fragments collected from one Texas eyrie in 1977 were 25% thinner than pre-1947 shells from Alberat, Saskatchewan, and Montana. There has, however, been an increase in the productivity of the peregrines nesting on the Rio Grande during the past two breeding seasons. Capture-breeding and reintroduction efforts have yielded positive results: a number of young falcons introduced to the wild during the past several years have returned to their release sites and are expected to breed
