William H. Brewer was a philanthropist that wrote of his travels near "Lassen's Peak" in 1863. Included are stories of the various mining towns in the Sierra Nevada, Indian Valley, Big Meadows, and the thermal areas and lakes around Lassen Peak. He discusses the culture in the area and the interaction with Indians at that time.
