Data on the diversity of the flora and vegetation on both the south and north slopes of the central Brooks Range were gathered within the valleys of the Alatna and Killik rivers. Four sites were studied during a two-month reconnaissance survey in 1974: the mountain belt on the Alatna River, the headwaters of the Alatna, the mountains of the Killik River, and an area just beyond the mountain front in the Arctic Foothills of the Killik River. The flora of the central Brooks Range overwhelmingly reflects the calcarous substrate that is common there. A systematic list of taxa is presented in two sections. The first includes the flowering plants, ferns, and fern lilies; the second, the lichens and bryophytes. Specimens from the survey are deposited at the Herbarium of the University of Alaska Museum.
