This paper describes techniques for capturing specimens of dragonflies of the genus Somatochlora from Kentucky and Tennessee. Of 17 specimens representing five species taken, two (Somatochlora linearis and Somatochlora filosa) were taken in Mammoth Cave National Park and two (Somatochlora provocans and Somatochlora williamsoni) were taken in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Somatochlora teebrosa was found in eastern Kentucky. Each species is described with habitat and distribution, height found flying above the ground, and the time of day the species was observed.
